Tina Fey Describes ‘Parenting In a Nutshell’

In the effort to balance working motherhood, Tina Fey  keeps her approach simple. “Whenever you can, just go home,” the 30 Rock actress, 40, advises Time Out New York Kids.

It would undoubtedly be a hard mantra for her character on the hit NBC show to adopt, but Fey insists that  workaholic Liz Lemon nonetheless “would make a great mom.”

“She’s used to sacrificing her dignity for others, which is parenting in a nutshell,” Fey quips.

Daughter Alice Zenobia, 5, is keying in to mom’s high-profile career, including her former role on Saturday Night Live.

“She thinks Amy Poehler is a lot funnier than me,” Fey shares. “The other day, she came up to me very worried and asked, ‘Mommy, why does Date Night have so much love in it?’ If she sees me doing a scene with a man who’s not Daddy [composer Jeff Richmond], she gets very upset. It’s nothing against Steve Carrell; Alice is just looking out for Daddy’s best interests.”

What’s in Alice’s best interest is growing up a New Yorker, according to Fey, who calls the Upper East Side “a great place to raise a youngster.”

Admitting that “there’s a little La Leche pressure when you’re with a newborn there,” Fey says she loves that in her neighborhood “kids are allowed to be kids.”

“They get to dress sloppy, spill things on themselves, run around and play in the park,” she continues. “There’s no preciousness; it’s all very normal.”

While cramped living quarters remains a drawback — “the lack of toy management at my house because of that fact is, frankly, stunning,” Fey admits — cultural opportunities abound.

“When I was growing up [in Upper Darby, Penn.], going to a museum was a big deal,” she explains. “It was a major day trip that you had to plan for. Here, you walk out your front door and five minutes later, bam!

You’re staring at dinosaur bones. The proximity is great. Of course, if you ask Alice, she’ll say that all she wants is a yard.”

'Back to the Future' is gift that keeps on giving to Thompson

Lea Thompson has at least two reasons to still be thankful for Back to the Future. For one, it put the actress on the map in Hollywood for years to come. And it also gave her the Halloween costume that keeps on giving.

"I still have the pink prom dress," says Thompson, the past, present and future Lorraine Baines McFly of the Back to the Future trilogy, which celebrates its 25th anniversary by making its Blu-ray debut (1985, 1989-90, Universal, $35; Blu-Ray, $50).

"We have a ritual: Every Halloween, my girls try to put (the dress) on and decide whether they want to wear it for Halloween. It's really too uncomfortable. And then I'm like, 'No, you can't take this out! I'm gonna have to sell it on eBay one day and pay for your college!' "

While Thompson's two daughters Madelyn, 19, and Zoey, 15, were initially confused the first time they watched Back to the Future and saw their mom kiss guys who weren't their dad — namely,

Michael J. Fox and Crispin Glover— but she says now they see it as a beautifully crafted film. And with this anniversary release, a whole new generation will be introduced to the time-traveling DeLorean,

Christopher Lloyd's eccentric scientist Doc Brown and his 1.21 gigawatts, and Fox's classic performance as Marty McFly, the guy who has to keep going back and forth across decades over the course of three movies to make sure his parents fall in love in the 1950s as well as keep the space-time continuum
intact.

"When a kid sees it, they get excited about all the time-travel nuts and bolts, the lightning, the skateboard stuff and all that. And as you get a little bit older, you see other things in it and it works for an adult," says screenwriter and producer Bob Gale, who hatched the idea for the trilogy with director Robert Zemeckis.

The special features of the new release are a time capsule in itself, as Zemeckis, Gale and executive producer Steven Spielberg explain the movie's origins, its scrapped finales (that clock tower climax of the first film was originally supposed to be at a nuclear test site) and important tweaks.

"In an early draft, we had Marty McFly as a video pirate. That didn't go over so well with any of the movieexecutives," Gale says, laughing.

A noteworthy extra is the first archival footage of Eric Stoltz, who was originally cast as Marty. He shot for five weeks before he was replaced by Fox.

"We know the movie would have been very different had we not recast it," says Gale, adding that he and Zemeckis had always held off on releasing the footage. "We never want to make Eric look bad. He's a good actor, a good guy, and now that he safely has a well-established career, we thought that just those little clips would be fine."

Thompson is grateful to have played six aspects of Lorraine over the course of the trilogy, plus the 1880s character of Maggie McFly in the Western-tinged Back to the Future III. "It's probably still my middle name. For a while, my middle name turned into Caroline in the City," Thompson says, referring to her 1990s sitcom, "but now it's back to Back to the Future.

"It was just a great part. It was sad and it was funny and it was sexy — what more could an actress ask for?" Part of the reason Back to the Future endures in pop culture is its deep themes, she says. "The idea that you can change your future, you can live a better life and be happier as you get older, that's an amazing thing to think about. And the idea that a child could help his parents go back and change their life and make it better is a sweet notion."

'Grey's' Star Jessica Capshaw 'grateful' for her family ties

 "It reminded me of The Blind Side," saysGrey's Anatomy actress Jessica Capshaw about her first read of her new Lifetime movie, One Angry Juror (Nov. 15, 9 ET/PT), in which she plays a tough New Orleans lawyer serving on the jury of a murder trial. What "resonated" with Capshaw, 34, was the movie's "inspiring story about someone taking on more than they really could or should in the name of justice and fairness."

 Of course, an "ideal" three-week shoot schedule during a hiatus from her "day job" as Dr. Arizona Robbins on Grey's and a chance to get some girlfriend cred didn't hurt.

 "Lifetime does a phenomenal job of finding these stories that are incredibly accessible to people," Capshaw says. "Since doing one, (I) have found out there are friends that you know and see on a daily basis that are Lifetime movie junkies. So I sort of went, 'Wow, this is a totally untapped area for me.'"

 Having already played a lawyer during her two seasons on The Practice, the Missouri native knows which job is a more comfortable fit. She recalls a conversation she had with Grey's co-star Kim Raver. "We already know how good we have it, but when you go do something else and you have all these costumes and fitting, you're like, 'I can't wait to put my scrubs back on.'"

 Many assume as the daughter of actress Kate Capshaw, who married Steven Spielberg when Jessica was 15, going into the "family" business was an easy path. Sure, she acknowledges "the impact" that growing up around "phenomenal storytelling and tremendous talent" had on her. But, she believes "in a lot of ways it was actually not helpful to have famous parents because there is definitely a very human feeling of, 'Well, when you come from all that, who wants to see that girl succeed.' You want to see the underdog succeed, the girl who spent her last two dollars on the bus ticket."

 Now that she's overcome that by being, she says, "the hardest-working person in the class, on the stage, in the audition," she's "really grateful" to come from where she came from. "I'm really happy that I get to say, 'I grew up amongst all of that and managed to find my little piece of the pie,' because that's really hard."

 What is helpful, says Capshaw, about coming from an "entertainment family" was the advice they could give her from their experiences. She took her mom's words, "You need to build a life and then you have to go off and do your job," most to heart.

 Hence, her college degree from Brown, her six-year marriage to Christopher Gavigan, the CEO of Healthy Child Healthy World, and children Luke, 3, and new daughter Eve, born Oct. 20.

 "I do feel very sated right now," she acknowledges. "I couldn't feel more fulfilled."

LeAnn Rimes Responds to Shape Cover Controversy

LeAnn Rimes is speaking out after Shape editor-in-chief Valerie Latona called the singer's October cover "a terrible mistake."

In an e-mail addressed to readers outraged by the singer's shocking interview (where Rimes explained why she cheated on ex-husband Dean Sheremet with Eddie Cibrian), Latona explained that "putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal, but to show (through her story) how we all are human." 

Rimes cover a 'terrible mistake,' Shape editor says

 

Rimes, blind-sided by the mass e-mail, took to her Twitter account to share her side of the story.

"Just so all my fans know, I'm getting to the bottom of this. It's the first I've heard of this," the 28-year-old singer tweeted Friday. "Shape is throwing me a party next week as a thank you and a congrats for being on their cover for the third time. I find this very contradictory."

Rimes then tweeted an invitation to RSVP for the Shape cocktail reception, taking place Nov. 4 at Trousdale in West Hollywood.

Shape's editor-in-chief spoke to USA Today Friday, explaining that her words were taken out of context and that "a mere 40 readers out of almost six million" wrote in to complain about Rimes.

"I stand by the fact that LeAnn's story is compelling — and her courage and strength in the face of so much adversity is compelling," Latona said. "I wrote to those women apologizing that our cover choice did not make them happy, as I have done for other cover stars in the past."

From public housing with mom to international superstar in less than three years, Justin Bieber’s rise to fame has been extraordinary.

On Thursday, in Part I of our interview, Access Hollywood put the spotlight on Justin Bieber, learning how he went from a local talent show, to posting videos online to becoming a breakout singer. In Part 2, Access’ Maria Menounos gets the scoop from Bieber himself on how the big boys noticed.

“I know that Justin Timberlake and Usher were battling to get you, is that cool to know that these two successful guys would go after you?” Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos, who interviewed Justin in Hawaii, asked.

“It was crazy… When I met Justin [Timberlake] he was really incredible because, you know, I got to meet Jessica Biel. So that was awesome,” Justin smiled.

Loving what he heard of the ‘Biebs’ sound, Usher ultimately won out and set Justin out on a path to stardom.
First came his 2009 debut hit single, “One Time.” That was followed by three other massive singles sold exclusively on iTunes.

Justin’s debut album, “My World,” came out last November and quickly went Platinum.
This past March, Justin’s “My World 2.0,” was released, featuring the hit single, “Baby.”
In October, the disc marked its 27th straight week on the Top 10 album chart — a feat which matched a record set by *NSYNC in 2000.

In addition to his music and good looks, there is another reason for Justin’s appeal – his hair.
“Will you ever cut your hair?” Maria asked.

“Yeah,” Justin said.

”[Will you] lose this ‘do at some point?” Maria probed further.
“Some point, probably within a year,” he said. “I’m not gonna like shave it or anything but it will just be different, shorter.”

Justin isn’t the only one sporting the Bieber ‘do. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has a Bieber-esque hairstyle too.

“Is that Tom Brady? It’s not I mean it’s not,” Justin said of Maria’s hair comparison. “He swishes it this way and I switch it this way. I mean, shouldn’t he be having like short hair, he’s like old right? He should have shorter hair. ‘Cause when I’m his age there is no way I’m going to have this hair.”

 "It's a tricky thing politically to jump on that bandwagon [and vote for the legalization of pot] because I think that maybe people still see it as taboo," said the 'Hangover' star.

Wife of Rapper T.I. Charged with Drug Possession

Los Angeles, California (CNN) -- The Los Angeles County district attorney filed a misdemeanor drug possession charge against "Tiny" Tameka Cottle, the wife of rapper T.I., Friday.

Cottle, 35, was arrested along with her husband after police found suspected drugs during a West Hollywood traffic stop last month.

She is accused of possessing MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, according to the court filing.

Drug charges against T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, were dropped by prosecutors on Monday.

Harris, 29, must still must report to a federal prison by next Monday to begin serving an 11-month sentence imposed by a judge who ruled his arrest and a subsequent failed drug test violated his probation on a weapons conviction.

Cottle was a successful singer-songwriter with the R&B group Xscape before beginning her relationship with T.I. nine years ago. They couple married earlier this year, soon after he was completed a one-year prison term.

She also starred in the BET reality series "Tiny and Toya," which followed her life in Atlanta, Georgia.

Camille Grammer: My Kids Don't Realize Kelsey Isn't Coming Back

Camille Grammer's marriage to Kelsey Grammer fell apart as the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills's cameras rolled over the summer while her husband was in New York, starring in Broadway's La Cage aux Folles and beginning a relationship with flight attendant Kayte Walsh, 29.

Now the newly minted reality star is speaking out about her heartbreak.

"This is my chance to tell my story and move on," Camille, 42, who has two children, Mason, 9, and Jude, 6, with Kelsey, 55, tells PEOPLE in an extensive interview. "Maybe it will be cathartic. Maybe this is part of my process."

When did you find out your marriage was over?
In June I got a phone call from a mutual friend in New York who was upset by behavior of his that she'd seen. I asked, "Is he leaving me?" and she said, "Yes." I called him but couldn't get through, so I texted him and asked him to please call me. Nothing. An hour later, I texted him again and he wrote: "I don't want to talk." I wrote, "We've been together for 14 years; I deserve an explanation." Finally, three hours later, he called me. He basically said, "I don't want to be married anymore."

How did you react?
I asked him if there was anything we could work on. I offered to go to therapy. Having children, I wasn't ready to throw in the towel. But his mind was already made up. I started crying and he said, "Oh, grow up." I said, "What about our children?" and he said, "They'll get over it." It was harsh.

How do you feel today?
I feel completely abandoned. I feel dismissed. This all happened very quickly for me. We don't even speak. He doesn't want to. For me, having two children together, it's very important that the two of us communicate. He only wants to communicate via e-mail, through our lawyers or a therapist who acts as a mediator.

How are your children reacting to the divorce?
They still don't realize he's not coming back. They think their daddy is busy doing a play. I'm trying to work with them on the concept that he's not going to come home the way they think he is. For my son, who is only 6, that's hard to understand. They've heard about his girlfriend, but the girlfriend to them is not real. How do you explain that to a 6-year-old and a 9-year-old? You can't lie. You have to be as truthful as possible, but you also have to be responsible.

How do you feel about your future?
I was scared at first, and there's still fear. But I'm excited about my future. That sounds weird, I know. But Kelsey was a very difficult man to have a relationship with. I miss him, but I don't want to look back anymore. Everything is new. I'm excited about rediscovering myself and becoming independent again.

Michael Jackson is the year's top-earning dead celebrity, according to Forbes magazine.

Michael Jackson is worth more dead than alive. He -- or more accurately, his estate -- has earned $279 million since his death. The only other celebrity, dead or alive, that earned more in the same time period was Oprah Winfrey.

Forbes writer Lacey Rose said, "Jackson’s spot atop our top earning dead celebrities list should come as no surprise given the renewed fan interest in music, videos and all things Michael Jackson."

Here's how it shakes out: Of that $279 million, $51 million is from album sales and radio airplay, $51 million is from his video game, memorabilia and the re-released autobiography, and the rest was generated through his This Is It concert film and Cirque du Soleil show.

"Thanks to a lucrative catalogue, hit film and album sales, the late king of pop earned more in the last year than Lady Gaga, Madonna and Jay-Z, combined," said Rose.

Remember, though, that at the time of his death Jackson was $507 million in debt, and claims are still being made on his estate. In fact, a court just shot down Joe Jackson's challenge of the executors of his son's will.

taxpayers' money."

As we previously reported, Sheen is still on probation in Aspen for another 7
days -- stemming from a Christmas Day domestic incident with his wife
Brooke Mueller.

So as far as Pitkin County is concerned, it's case closed.

Taylor Swift opens up about 'Speak Now'

Taylor Swift has been very open about the fact that her new album "Speak Now" is quite confessional, and now she's opening up to Rolling Stone about  the back stories behind some of the songs.

"Innocent," written after the VMA incident with Kanye West, for example, didn't come to Swift quickly. "Some songs take 30 minutes to write, and some take six months, which was the case with 'Innocent.' When things affect me intensely and really hit me hard, it can take a while to figure out what I think about it and what to say about it." As for rumors that she and Kanye reconciled backstage at this year's VMAs, Swift just said, "It's a long story."

As for "Mean," Swift told Rolling Stone that it's about one of her critics, "a writer who kept going off on me, blasting me," she said. "There's a place for constructive criticism, but then there's a line that gets crossed.

Every time I'd read something new, it would just level me, and my only way of handling it was to write a song about it."

Beyonce Knowles Pregnant With First Child: Report

Beyonce Knowles better brush up on her lullabies.

Singer Beyonce Knowles and her rapper husband Jay-Z are expecting their first child, US Weekly magazine reported on Wednesday.

Despite the happy news, no one was more surprised than the singer herself. She had wanted to finish another album but was overjoyed, the U.S. magazine said.

"B was shocked. She loves kids, but she wasn't ready to be a mother just yet," says a source of the singer, who married rapper Jay-Z in 2008. "She really wanted to get her album done and tour the world again."

Still, another insider says that the singer, who is in her first trimester, realizes that "this is a gift from God and she's so happy."

Friends of the couple are already expressing their well-wishes for the parents-to-be.

"Jay has been all about family since I met him, and he's always going to be," record executive Kevin Liles, who has known the rapper for years, tells Us. "I wish them the best."
