Beyonce's rap star husband, Jay-Z, has said that he might run for US President - but not for another eight years. Yes, seriously. Eight years from now, gun-loving, feud-loving, bad boy rapper Jay-Z could be in charge of the big red button...It's a powerful image, isn't it? His bling-laden hand hovering over world anihilation, Beyonce in the background looking pretty, and Kim Jong Il or some other coffin-dodging despot from the Axis-of-Evil up on the video screen like some bargain-bucket knock-off of a James Bond film.
"Give me a chance, maybe in eight years, I'll be the president," Jay-Z blagged to Radio 1's Newsbeat programme earlier. The hip hop star was waxing lyrical at the time about the current US midterm elections and his impressions of Obama's reign, also saying that, "In order to judge someone, you have to judge what they inherit, he [Obama] inherited the worst economy, war, just a horrible time in American history. So if we think he can solve that, I mean, we don't think he's God, do we?"
Jay-Z went on to add that, "He's a human being, he's going to need time to figure that out but it may be a good thing. In order to get to that sort of success and that dream, you have to go through some peaks and valleys - it's been two years."
It has indeed been two years. And in eight more, it could be Jay-Z. And for those of you thinking no, it could never happen - just look at what's happened to Wyclef in Haiti - it might be worth reminding you that not so long ago a pretty poor Hollywood actor did become President of the USA. His name was Ronald Reagan. And, even more recently, another became the Governor of Cailfornia. *snigger*
So, do you think it's possible for a rap star to become President of the USA? Or do you think it's all just hot air? Let us know below!
